Dry Skin

What is dry skin?

While normal skin has a smooth and glowing appearance, dry skin looks dull and may be rough, scaly and prone to cracking.

How dry our skin is varies with age and genetic make-up, but dryness can also be caused by exposure to the sun and wind, air-conditioning, soaps and detergents, hot spas, baths and showers, and some medications.

Dry skin may cause itching and be a precursor to skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema and the most severe form of dry skin, ichthyosis, also known as fish-scale disease

What can you do about dry skin?

To repair dry and sensitive skin, replace soap with a gentle, pH-balanced soap-free cleanser and moisturise frequently, available from Hills Mobile Beauty.  This will help to relieve tightness and improve your skin's appearance.

Avoid exposure to the sun and wind, air-conditioning, hot water, soap and detergents as much as possible. Heated air may need humidifying, and radiators should be directed away from the skin. Wool and synthetic materials may also cause increased irritation.

Use a broad-spectrum moisturising sunscreen every day such as Skinstitute Moisture Protective SPF 15 available from Hills Mobile Beauty, to help prevent the sun from drying your skin, paying particular attention to your face and the back of the hands. Protect dry lips with a moisturising lip balm with an added sunscreen.
